Drummer Tom Schofield of SOIL says that singer/guitarist A.J. Cavalier is on an "indefinite hiatus" from the band but has not officially quit the group. Schofield also revealed that he is "looking for new musical opportunities while A.J. is on hiatus."

When asked about the rumors that SOIL may play its previously announced shows with replacement members — possibly in the form of ex-SILVERGUN vocalist Jordan Lee and CHAINWAX drummer Mike Tignino — Schofield said, "I don't know if Adam [Zadel, lead guitar] and Tim [King, bass] will continue with replacements or not. A.J. and I will not be a part of any of the dates."

SOIL's next live performance is scheduled to take place on July 28 at Cabooze Outdoors in Minneapolis, Minnesota as the support act for BUCKCHERRY.

        

Wisconsin death metallers JUNGLE ROT have parted ways with drummer Eric House.

Commented the band: "Eric found himself in a personal crisis that demanded his utmost attention. Therefore he had no choice but to leave the band. Since then, we have been jamming with our good friend Tony Ochoa [SINDROME, SPEED\KILL/HATE] behind the kit, and things are sounding great! Tony is a ridiculously hard hitter and will be joining us on the road for the upcoming U.S. tour!"

JUNGLE ROT will hit the road in North America at the end of July, with support from Metal Blade recording artists LIGHTNING SWORDS OF DEATH and WOE OF TYRANTS.

Comments JUNGLE ROT founding vocalist/guitarist David Matrise: "We are stoked to get back out on the road in the U.S. and Canada! It's been way too long!

"We expect to see you at the shows! No excuses!

"For all the fans in areas of the country we are not visiting on this tour, fret not! We will be doing more extensive touring in the spring after the release of our new album."

In a recent interview, Vinnie Paul was asked about his personal items that he has put up on Ebay. He previously put a broken oven and his first cell phone. 

"It's not about the money — it's not like I can't afford to buy my own coffin when it's time to go, you know, but it's about the 'nut' factor.

"I've got something else I'm about to put on there, too. Well, I've got two things — I've got one barbecue grill I'm about to put on there, and it works just fine — but I've also got my 1993 Mitsubishi 3000 [car] I'm gonna put on there. Probably the 'Blue Book' [value] on it [is] 700 dollars, but I guarantee you I'm gonna get about 12 grand out of that thing."

Regarding his plan to sell his toilets from his newly purchased house in Las Vegas, Vinnie said, "The toilets are definitely going on [eBay].

"When I bought that house in Vegas... That house was built in 1986 and apparently people were smaller back then. I took [the toilets] all out, put them in the garage [and] got new ones, but those are going on eBay. And I will autograph those — there's three of them — and I guarantee you those will probably go for 1500 to three grand apiece."

He added, "It just pays for me and Greg's drinking habits."

SLAYER, MEGADETH and ANTHRAX — will hit the road together once again on leg two of the "American Carnage" tour. This trek kicks off September 24 at Verizon Wireless Theatre in Dallas, Texas and will play 20 dates, including New York's Nassau Coliseum, concluding at Gibson Amphitheatre in Los Angeles on October 21.

On leg two of "American Carnage", MEGADETH will continue to roar through its landmark 1990 album "Rust in Peace" from front to back, while SLAYER will rip the roof off by performing its much-lauded "Seasons in the Abyss" album, which was also released in 1990. ANTHRAX recently welcomed back singer Joey Belladonna, who defined the band during its heyday, and now permanently back in the band, will be front-and-center.

A special pre-sale will launch this Wednesday, July 14, and fans should log on to Slayer.net, Megadeth.com or Anthrax.com to obtain the special code needed for the pre-sale, and then go to Ticketmaster.com (KnoxvilleTickets.com for the Knoxville date) to purchase tickets. The public on-sale will begin July 23 in most markets.

In the spirit of beating the recession, there will be pre-sale discounts on all tickets in most markets (see below for more details), and if that's not enough, a limited amount of $10 tickets will be available in many cities. Log on to any of the bands' web sites or on to Ticketmaster's site for those details.

But wait, there's even more. For leg two of the "American Carnage" tour, MEGADETH has teamed up with ILoveAllAccess.com to provide fans with VIP experiences including priority venue access, meet-and-greets, parties, exclusive gifts and more. Logging on to Megadeth.com will provide those details. Plus, fans who purchase their tickets online at either Slayer.net or Ticketmaster.com will receive a free download of the live audio track "War Ensemble", set to be included on SLAYER's forthcoming, as-yet-unannounced "Live Intrusion" DVD release.

SLAYER, MEGADETH and ANTHRAX will kick off the second leg of the "American Carnage" tour on the heels of the historic "Big Four" Sonisphere festival concerts they played with METALLICA in seven European cities this summer. The dates marked the first time that these four bands — acknowledged as the most influential bands of the thrash genre — had shared a concert bill.

The original "Clash of the Titans" tour united the three forces of thrash metal for the entire summer of 1991, with then-little known ALICE IN CHAINS serving as the opener. This tour, which falls under the "American Carnage" banner, isn't rewriting history, it's writing a whole new chapter of head-banging history that is sure to delight fans new and old.

MEGADETH and SLAYER return to North America late this month to co-headline the East Coast "Canadian Carnage" tour, and then starting August 11, the first leg of the "American Carnage" tour" (dates below) with TESTAMENT as special guest. The tour was originally scheduled for a winter 2010 run, but was postponed when SLAYER bassist/vocalist Tom Araya was forced to undergo neck surgery. But as is the case for anything good in life, this tour will be well worth the wait.

Rebel Radio is sad to report that one of our Rebel Family members, Larry Egnor, aka Scary Larry passed away last night, July 3rd. Larry was not just a rocking metalhead but a great friend. One of the nicest people you would probably ever meet in a life time.. There was nothing "scary" about him.  He will definately be missed by both his family and friends. STATIC-X frontman Wayne Static was interviewed on June 18, 2010 edition of "Uncensored Net Noise".  A couple of excerpts from the chat follow.

On whether there is any truth to the Internet rumors that STATIC-X has broken up:

Wayne: "Well, that's not a yes-or-no question. It's more complicated than that.

"Let me give you a little background.

"STATIC-X has never been a band where the four guys get into a room together and jam and write songs and all that kind of stuff.

"Here's the way STATIC-X has always worked: I write all the songs by myself — totally and completely by myself — I give demos to the other guys, and then they add their parts to it, and then we argue about stuff and compromise and it turns out being STATIC-X. And so my whole idea was, [with the upcoming PIGHAMMER solo project] I just wanna do it by myself. I write everything myself anyway. So I'm recording everything myself — no compromising.

"This PIGHAMMER record is supposed to be a side project. And it just so happens that at the same time I'm recording this record, our contract was up with Warner Bros., so it's time for STATIC-X to re-sign. So Tony [Campos, STATIC-X bassist] dropped out [of the band]. So Tony's out and it's up to me if I wanna do another record as STATIC-X — with Koichi [Fukuda, guitar] or Nick [Oshiro, drums] or whoever I want to be in STATIC-X. But Tony's out of the picture for sure — he dropped out; he doesn't wanna do it anymore."

On Tony's reasons for leaving:

Wayne: "I haven't talked to him about it. He's been playing a lot of childish games over the last couple of years and dropping little lies here and there about me. Like, he said that I'm doing a record with my wife [former adult-film star Tera Wray] and that's why STATIC is on hold. And I was like, 'C'mon, dude. I'm doing a solo record.'

"I think he's jealous 'cause I have the hottest wife in the world. Honestly, that's what I really think.

"But anyway, that's the situation. I have not officially closed the coffin on STATIC-X. My plan was to do this solo record and then do another STATIC-X record. Tony decided he doesn't wanna do it anymore, so I'm not really sure where that puts things — if STATIC-X is still gonna be STATIC-X without him. I think it could be. Right now I'm just kind of focusing on getting my solo record done, which is absolutely awesome. It's some of the greatest stuff I've ever written. I'm going back and doing some singing, kind of like I did on [2003's] 'Shadow Zone', but it's still got all the full-on screaming that everyone likes, too. It's a little more electronic-sounding, kind of like [2001's] 'Machine' was — more keyboards and loops. And I'm really excited about it."

On being the sole creative force in STATIC-X:

Wayne: "I've always tried to keep the same guys in the band for our onstage chemistry, [but] in fact I've actually written and produced everything that the band has ever put out."

On whether STATIC-X will sign with a new label or re-sign with Warner Bros.:

Wayne: "I actually re-signed with Warner Bros. on my own. They've been really good to us and all the people over there are great; they love me and I love them. So I'm just sticking with them. So my solo record will be coming out on Warner as well."

On a possible release date for the PIGHAMMER debut:

"I'm hoping before the end of the year. I'm guessing I'm a few weeks — maybe four, five, six weeks tops — from actually finishing recording. And then from there it takes the label three or four months to put it out, so I'm hoping to get it out by fall."

On whether there will be any touring behind the solo project:

Wayne: "Yes, absolutely. I've got some people lined up. I'm gonna have my wife playing bass on it — like a hot chick bass player on stage, you know what I'm saying?! And then I've got Bevan Davies [drums; JERRY CANTRELL, DANZIG, COMES WITH THE FALL], who actually has played with STATIC-X twice — he's done two tours with us when Nick couldn't do it; he filled in a couple of times. And then I've got another buddy of mine who's probably gonna play guitar. But that'll all come in time. Right now, like I said, I'm just focusing on the recording part."

On the possibility of STATIC-X carrying on in the future:

Wayne: "No matter what, Wayne Static will march on, and the music that I'm writing for my solo record is gonna sound very much like STATIC-X — I think it's gonna be a little more straight to the point and a little less compromised — but I agree with you there's an onstage chemistry with all the guys that some people may miss, but the music's gonna be slamming, just like any of your favorite STATIC-X records, so I will go on no matter what. And we'll see what the future brings as far as all the other guys jumping back in or not."

According to DesMoinesRegister.com, SLIPKNOT bass player Paul Gray died of an accidental overdose of morphine and fentanyl, a medical examiner has ruled.

Gray's body was discovered about 10:50 a.m. May 24 by a maintenance worker at TownePlace Suites in Urbandale, Iowa.

A hypodermic needle lay near the bed, and "all kinds of pills" surrounded Gray, who was hunched over in the corner of the room, according to a 911 call.

Polk County Medical Examiner Dr. Gregory Schmunk said today that it was two injected drugs — fentanyl is a synthetic form of morphine — that killed Gray. The pills did not contribute to his death, Schmunk said.

Gray also suffered from significant heart disease, Schmunk said.

Schmunk completed a death certificate on Friday afternoon.

Private funeral services for Gray were held on May 28 in Des Moines, Iowa.

        

The developers of popular iPad pinball game Pinball HD have launched a reskinned version for SLAYER, with the full blessing of the band.

The game is inspired by their new album, "World Painted Blood", with several songs acting as the soundtrack. Singer Tom Araya also contributes a voiceover to the game, which is a Universal app — so it is available for iPhone and iPad.

Developer Gameprom promises guitar-shredding mini-games, as well as some pretty ninja pinball physics and 3D camera angles.

        

Rob Zombie will guest-host the June 28 edition of "WWE Raw", the professional wrestling television program for World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) that currently airs on the USA network in the United States. Zombie will host the event live from the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

METALLICA, SLAYER, MEGADETH and ANTHRAX — the so-called "Big Four" of 1980s thrash metal — will play together for the first time in history tonight (Wednesday, June 16) at the Sonisphere festival at Bemowo Airport in Warsaw, Poland.

Commented ANTHRAX guitarist Scott Ian: "This is a metal fan's dream.

"Looking at this, not only as one of the bands playing on the show, which is fucking awesome, but from the point of view of a fan of SLAYER and MEGADETH and METALLICA, I just think it's the best show.

"The guys in the bands have all been talking about the possibility of this tour happening for probably 20 years.

"When we did Clash of the Titans in the states in 1991 with ANTHRAX, SLAYER and MEGADETH, we said, 'God, if only we had METALLICA on this, it would be the ultimate tour of all time.' And here we are in 2010 for what is for me the ultimate metal show.

"It's an unbelievable thing for someone to come see this and the fans should know that the bands are just as excited about it as they are.

"The idea of getting on that stage tonight in front of the that giant crowd in Poland and representing the big four as the first one up, I feel we have a responsibility to be the best ANTHRAX we've ever been. I think all the bands feel that way and have a huge sense of gratitude to the audiences coming to see this.

"The bottom line is that a lot of genres of music come and go. We've seen a lot come and go over the past 27 years. But what we do, we keep doing because of the fans and that means so much to us that the music we make still means so much to so many people around the world.

"The rest of the world is clamoring for shows.

"Whether we do the U.S. is out of hands. That's a METALLICA question. For this [European run of dates], we kept hearing the rumors and I kept calling Kirk [Hammett, METALLICA guitarist] and he kept denying it and then one time he finally said, 'Yes, it's going to happen, but don't say anything.' I think it's going to be the same with other territories. We're already hearing rumors about other places in the world. And I think eventually it will be a worldwide adventure."

These four legendary acts broke out of the underground thrash movement to dominate the metal world in the 1980s, selling millions of records and packing arenas across the globe. The metal giants have never before all shared the same stage, despite huge demand.

A second "Big Four" appearance is planned for Sonisphere Switzerland two days after the Warsaw concert, with more Sonisphere shows featuring the awesome combo to follow.

The "Big Four" concert on June 22 in Sofia, Bulgaria will find its way to the U.S. via a satellite broadcast. That day's show, as part of the Sonisphere festival, will be beamed to more than 450 movie theatres in more than 140 markets in the U.S., along with cities in Europe, Canada and Latin America.

The concert will be broadcast to theatres in high definition. Delayed screenings are planned for Australia, South Africa and New Zealand.

METALLICA's Lars Ulrich said in a statement, "Who would have thought that more than 25 years after its inception, thrash metal's 'Big Four' would not only still be around, be more popular than ever, playing shows together at stadiums all over Europe, and on top of that, coming to a movie theater near you in high definition (for better or worse??!!). Bring it on!"

        

RollingStone.com reports that AVENGED SEVENFOLD drummer Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan died on December 28, 2009 from an accidental overdose of prescription drugs and alcohol. Toxicology reports indicate that Sullivan suffered "acute polydrug intoxication due to combined effects of Oxycodone, Oxymorphone, Diazepam/Nordiazepam and ethanol," according to Orange County Deputy Coroner Mitchell Sigal. Sigal added that Sullivan also had cardiomegaly (an enlarged heart), which was marked in the coroner's report as a "significant condition" that may have played a role in the drummer's death. The Coroner's Department conducted "five or six" different tests to verify the cause of death, Sigal added.

"To all of us who loved Jimmy, the only thing relevant about December 28 is that is the night we lost, too soon, a son, brother, friend and one of the most talented artists in the world," the band's manager Larry Jacobson tells RollingStone.com. "Every day, his parents and sisters, and his brothers in AVENGED SEVENFOLD smile at the many memories they have of Jimmy and his fans around the world revel in the musical legacy he left them."

According to the Des Moines Register, Urbandale, Iowa police are investigating the death of SLIPKNOT's bass guitarist at a local hotel.

Paul Dedrick Gray, 38, of Johnston was found dead at approximately 10:50 a.m. today by an employee at TownePlace Suites 8800 Northpark Drive, police said.

There was no evidence of foul play, police said.

According to KCCI.com, the Polk County Medical Examiner's Office is assisting in the death investigation and will perform an autopsy on Tuesday. Toxicology testing will be completed to determine if there were any contributing factors in the death of Gray, police said.

Witnesses reported that items from the hotel room were carried out of the hotel around 2 p.m.

Gray was born in Los Angeles, California, and later moved to Des Moines.

Wikipedia shows that Gray has been married for two years to GodsGirls' Brenna Paul and has a tattoo of her name on his knuckles.

In a December 2009 posting on his MySpace page, Gray revealed that his wife was pregnant with the couple's first child. "I am the happiest man on the face of the earth — literally!" he wrote. He added, "This has been the best Christmas I have ever had!"

In April 2010 it was announced that Paul Gray had joined HAIL!, the supergroup featuring mainstays Tim "Ripper" Owens (BEYOND FEAR, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN, ex-JUDAS PRIEST, ICED EARTH), David Ellefson (MEGADETH) and Andreas Kisser (SEPULTURA). He was supposed to replace the group's original member, David Ellefson, who was unable to take part in HAIL!'s upcoming touring activities due to his renewed collaboration with MEGADETH. At the time, Paul Gray stated about his involvement with HAIL!: "This is going to be amazing! After I heard the news about David reuniting with MEGADETH I touched base with Andreas and everything fell into place pretty immediately. I was excited about what they were doing and their whole attitude is just cool, old school camaraderie and fun and I wanted to share that with them. Fortunately, I had this window of time available as SLIPKNOT are on break so the timing worked perfectly. These guys have been through it all and they represent true metal brotherhood. I like that and I'm glad to now be a part of it. I can't wait, I wish we'd leave tomorrow. These shows are going to kick ass!"

Back in 2003, authorities agreed to drop drug possession charges against Paul Gray in exchange for Gray's acknowledgement that he was on drugs when he was involved in a minor traffic accident  in the summer of 2003 in Des Moines.

Des Moines police arrested Gray on June 1, 2003 after his car collided with a car at Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway and Carpenter Avenue.

A police report at the time said Gray "had impaired balance, slurred and dull speech, and extremely sleepy and dull behavior."

In the November 2008 issue of Revolver magazine, Gray spoke openly about his struggle with drug addiction and how it affected SLIPKNOT during the songwriting and recording process for both 2001's "Iowa" and 2004's "Vol. 3: The Subliminal Verses".

"I was pissed at Corey [Taylor, SLIPKNOT vocalist] and Jim [Root, SLIPKNOT guitarist] for doing [their side project] STONE SOUR," he said. "I thought, 'Fuck, we should be working on SLIPKNOT.' But we really needed that time apart. During the downtime I played with UNIDA and jammed with friends, but mostly I did a lot of drinking and some drugs — some heavy, heavy drugs… lots of heroin. I was shooting speedballs every day. And then pills. I was on everything, man. In the beginning I kind of had my shit under control, but after a while, no. I became an addict."

He added, "I wrote a bunch of stuff [for 'Vol. 3'] — like I do every record — but I would spend half the time in the bathroom [shooting up]. I'd be trying to play, and I'd fall out of my chair a couple times and fall asleep in the middle of tracking a song. There was a lot of depression going on. I wasn't mad at anybody, but everyone else was and I felt, 'Oh, fuck, my family is falling apart.' This has been the best thing that ever happened to me. And once you get to a certain point with drugs it's fuckin' so hard going through withdrawal. It's not that you don't want to quit. You just can't. Halfway through the record, the band had an intervention on me and I ended up going to rehab."

He continued, "Going through rehab in L.A. kept me good for a little while, but then we got back out on the road and I just knew too many people and I started using a lot again on and off. I had some near-death experiences — nothing I'm gonna go into any detail about — but I definitely pushed it to the very end and I'm still here. I have friends, though, who pushed it just the same way, and they are dead. Finally, I got left in rehab at the end of the arena tour with SHADOWS FALL and LAMB OF GOD and I missed the last six shows. Then, afterwards… Well, idle hands do the devil's work. I met my wife and she stayed with me and helped me, but then I'd full on run with it. Finally she said, 'I can't sit around and watch you kill yourself.' I was living in L.A. at the time, which wasn't helping because it was so easy [to get drugs]. So, I moved back to Iowa with her and went to my doctor and got straightened out. And it's been a good couple years now that I've been clean."

Guitarist Dino Cazares of Los Angeles cyber metallers FEAR FACTORY has issued the following update:

"We were on our way to Boise, Idaho for a day off when [Tuesday] morning [May 18] about 8:45 our bus driver fell asleep at the wheel. He swerved to the opposite side of the road. Most of us woke up when we felt the bus on the rumble strips then the dirt. He woke up in time to swerve back onto our side of the road and pull over . Thank god there was no oncoming cars or 18-wheelers on the road. Everyone is fine, just a little nervous."

Florida melodic metal group EKOTREN has inked a deal with the Chicago-based record label Burnhill Union Records. The band will hit the studio in early July with producer Paul Trust (ENDO, DIECAST, ATOM SMASH) to begin recording its sophomore album for a late 2010 release.

Commented guitarist Keith Finnell: "We are really excited to be working with Burnhill Union and can't wait to hit the studio in July to finish the album!"

EKOTREN's debut album, "Light The Fire", was released by in February 2008. The CD's lead single, "Light The Fire", spent 32 weeks as one of the most requested songs on Sirius Satellite Radio, Hard Attack's "Devil's Dozen," peaking at No. 3. The band has been on the road relentlessly since the release of the album and has shared the stage with the likes of STAIND, CHEVELLE, NONPOINT, FLYLEAF, SALIVA, ILL NINO, DIECAST, BOBAFLEX, STRAIGHT LINE STITCH and others…

Burnhill Union Records is a hard rock/metal label started earlier this year by partners Kym Affinito, Randy Kertz and Shaun Glass (ex-SOIL/current DIRGE WITHIN guitarist). The label's roster also includes AM CONSPIRACY and RIKETS.
